Do I need to tip in Bali?
Tipping is not expected but always appreciated — rounding up for drivers and 5–10% in restaurants when there is no service charge is a kind gesture.
Tipping culture in Bali is simple:
- Restaurants: many mid-range and upmarket places add a service charge already. If not, 5–10% is generous
- Drivers: rounding up or adding 20–50k IDR for a good day is warmly received
- Spa and salon staff: 10% or rounding up is a lovely gesture, wages are modest
- Warungs and street food: no tip expected, but leaving the small change never goes unappreciated
Nobody will chase you for a tip in Bali — but for the people looking after you, small amounts make a real difference.
