What should I do if I get Bali belly?

Rest, hydrate with bottled water and electrolytes, eat plain food, and see a clinic if you have fever or it lasts more than two or three days.

Bali belly — traveller's diarrhoea — is the most common health hiccup on the island, and most cases pass in a day or two.

    Look after yourself

    • Drink only bottled or properly filtered water, and skip ice in very small warungs
    • Oral rehydration salts from any pharmacy (apotek) are your best friend
    • Eat plain rice, toast and bananas until your stomach settles

    When to see a doctor

Fever, blood, or symptoms lasting beyond two or three days mean it is time for a clinic. International-standard clinics in Canggu, Seminyak, Ubud and Sanur are used to exactly this and visits are affordable.
